Briana Martin, MSPE | EHF
At the beginning of this year, our Research and Evaluation team launched the Digging Deeper series. We know that our extensive research reports often leave readers wanting to dive deeper into certain topics—that’s exactly what Digging Deeper aims to do. Here’s a brief recap of what we wrote about in 2024:
In January, we dug into EHF’s annual health policy poll results to explore the longitudinal opinions and views of Texans since 2018, which revealed women’s health as a top priority. Additionally, we used our poll results to understand why 28% of Texan’s indicated that they don’t have access to a primary care provider (PCP).

Positive Deviance
This year, we also took a deep dive into the “positive deviance approach” with a five-part series to build off of our research report highlighting how listening to communities can find local, effective strategies to food and nutrition security.

Alternative Payment Models
EHF staff and partners used Digging Deeper to reflect on lessons learned from our participation in two projects related non-medical drivers of health (NMDOH) financing tools.
Special Topics
Lastly, we delved into two special topics: community paramedicine and diabetes awareness. These posts provide updates on the evaluation of a community paramedicine intervention we’ve supported in Longview, TX through the Texas Accountable Communities for Health Initiative (TACHI) and insights we’ve learned while exploring one of our new Priorities for Change: Diabetes Prevention.
