As the state continues to recover from the economic and health care implications of the COVID-19 pandemic at a period of high inflation, Texans face several issues when it comes to affording and accessing health care. Many also report trouble with non-medical factors that influence health, such as employment, ability to afford basic necessities, having safe and affordable housing, and access to affordable and healthy food.
“This is more than a health care crisis; It’s a statewide crisis,” says Dr. Ann Barnes, President and CEO of Episcopal Health Foundation. “These numbers paint a grim picture of the barriers Texans face in accessing essential medical care.”
