Watch the interview with EHF's Dr. Ann Barnes and Fit Houston's Lharissa Jacobs.

On National Walking Day April 1, EHF’s Dr. Ann Barnes and Fit Houston‘s Lharissa Jacobs talked about the importance that walking and walking programs have on overall health.

It happened during EHF’s new Igniting Change LIVE conversation on EHF’s LinkedIn page.

Ann and Lharissa discussed the impact walking has on preventing diabetes and other chronic diseases and how Fit Houston is getting neighborhoods moving!

Fit Houston is a nonprofit that increases physical activity across Houston’s communities. EHF invested $250,000 in a grant to Fit Houston as part of more than $4 million in investments focused on the foundation’s priorities for change outlined in its updated Strategic Framework.

The goal of the grant is to see if a simple, convenient group walking program can help more people stay active, an important step in preventing diabetes. EHF’s grant is being used to strengthen and expand the walking program and measure how progress is tracked so we can learn what works.

Watch now to hear how simple, community-based solutions like walking programs can help more people stay healthy and prevent chronic disease.
