SUMMARY:In Common 2023...Rooted. | Waco
DESCRIPTION:Date:           March 25\, 2023\nLocation:  St. Alban’s Episcopal Church\n305 N 30th St\, Waco\, TX 76710 \nREGISTER HERE! – Registration remains open until Thursday\, March 23! \nFREE! For all Episcopal clergy\, lay leaders\, parishioners\, and community partners working with Episcopal churches. \nIn Common is an opportunity\, to be inspired\, gain new skills\, and share hopes for building bridges and getting to know our neighbors. EHF and community partner organizations will share resources that can help congregations understand their communities better\, identify their community’s needs and assets\, and take action for positive transformation. Meet others across the Diocese\, share stories and lessons learned\, and build relationships for future work. \nIn Common 2023 is organized into two regional convening events hosted in Waco and Galveston. Each event will include a full-day of topic-specific workshops on Saturday. Speakers and topics will vary for each convening so you may choose to attend the event closest to you or the one offering the topics of most interest. \n\nAGENDA \nSATURDAY\, MARCH 25\n8:30 AM          Breakfast \n9 AM                Welcome and Plenary Session | Episcopal Health Foundation \n10 AM              Workshop | Morning Sessions \n11:45 AM         Lunch + Networking \n1:00 PM          Workshop | Afternoon Sessions \n\n3:00 PM          Closing\n\nWORKSHOPS\n\nMORNING SESSIONS | 10 AM – 11:30 AM \n\nWorkshop #1 – Rooted. In the Community: Ministry with and to Multicultural Communities (En español)\n\nCome and explore community ministry that recognizes the diversity in communities. This workshop will provide examples of ministry from a Hispanic perspective to diverse neighborhoods and community groups. It will share lessons learned and offer suggestions and strategies on how to enhance current multicultural efforts. (This workshop will be conducted in Spanish with simultaneous translation available to English speakers.)\nSpeakers include:\n\nThe Rev. Oscar Huerta-Garcia\, El Buen Pastor\, Waco\nThe Rev. Alex Montes-Vela\, Episcopal Diocese of Texas\nRosalinda Rodriguez\, St. John’s\, Austin\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWorkshop #2 – Rooted. In Understanding Privilege and Unpacking It (please note this session will be offered twice\, in the morning and in the afternoon)\n\n The term white privilege is a very challenging one of people who are white. This workshop will explore the definition of “white privilege”: what it is and what it isn’t\, and its impact on the daily lives of people of color and people who are white.\nSpeakers:\n\nDain and Constance Perry\, Traces of the Trade\n\n\n\n\n\nAFTERNOON SESSIONS | 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM \n\nWorkshop #3 – Rooted. In Gathering: The Wellspring is a Vision for Arlington’s Future and a Church Centered on Neighbors\n\nAll Souls in Arlington asked themselves the question\, “Why are we using a 1960’s model of church in 2023? Square pegs\, round holes…” Not because they were particularly ingenious\, but because they were backed into a corner. The result is a fundamentally different way of being the church\, in an authentic\, faithful manner that is bringing health to the community and themselves. This workshop will introduce you to our community engagement discernment process\, invite you to reimagine the role of the church in the community\, and leave you with possibilities.\nSpeakers include:\n\nGloria Bender\, Arlington Center for Community Engagement (ACCE)\nThe Rev. Kevin Johnson\, All Soul’s\, Arlington\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWorkshop #4 – Rooted. In Understanding Privilege and Unpacking It (see Workshop 2)\n\n\nSpanish interpretation will be available if needed. EHF will also provide local lodging and childcare for those who require these services.\n\nREGISTER HERE!– Registration remains open until Thursday\, March 23!\n\nWe encourage you to bring a team from your congregation! Your congregation will get the most out of the conference if your team is able to explore multiple workshops. If you are still determining who should come or what is the best fit for your congregation\, contact us!\n\nQuestions? Contact Anne Eisner at 832-658-2600 or aeisner@episcopalhealth.org.
