SUMMARY:What’s Community Got to Do with It? The Role of Lay People in Public Mental Health
DESCRIPTION:EHF Mental Health Learning Network\nHosted by the EHF Congregational Engagement Team and mental health partners Lynda Frost and Anna Jackson \n \nREGISTER HERE! \nThe Episcopal Health Foundation invites you to take part in a Learning Community composed of a series of 90-minute sessions aimed at exploring how we can create connection and promote the mental health and well-being of people in our communities and congregations. \n What’s Community Got to Do with It? The Role of Lay People in Public Mental Health \n Date: Thursday\, October 21\, 2021\n Time: 11:30AM – 1:00PM CDT \nIn our lives\, our mental health ebbs and flows — sometimes our mental wellbeing is steady and sometimes we struggle. Many of our public behavioral health services in Texas are designed to support people experiencing a mental health crisis and lack capacity to address our ongoing mental health needs when we are doing well — or when we aren’t at our best but aren’t experiencing a full-fledged crisis. Access to care along this continuum of need is a key social justice issue across the state. \nThis session will focus on what the public mental health service system in Texas does\, what it does not do\, and what roles communities and congregations are playing across the state. We’ll share examples of effective community engagement to promote mental health — from education and advocacy to wellness support and social connection — and explore what participants might want to pursue. We’ll explore these examples with an eye to social justice concerns and identify ways to move beyond toxic charity to true partnership. \nREGISTER HERE! \nPlease contact Eric Moen at emoen@episcopalhealth.org if you have questions or concerns \nThe Episcopal Health Foundation Congregational Engagement Team works with the Episcopal congregations in the Episcopal Diocese of Texas to deepen their outreach ministries engaging in building healthy communities.
