SUMMARY:EHF Mental Health Learning Network | Deep Listening: A Skill-Building Session
DESCRIPTION:EHF Mental Health Learning Network\nHosted by the EHF Congregational Engagement Team and mental health partners Lynda Frost and Anna Jackson \nThe Episcopal Health Foundation invites you to take part in a Learning Community composed of a series of 75-minute sessions aimed at exploring how we can create connection and promote the mental health and well-being of people in our communities and congregations. \nDeep Listening: A Skill-Building Session \n Date: Tuesday\, June 11\, 2024\n Time: 12:00PM – 1:15PM CT \nAs we continue to navigate polarization in our communities and families\, we find that our ability to navigate complex – often fraught – conversations is increasingly important. While listening is just one dimension of meaningful dialogue\, it is a fundamental aspect of building trust across differences. In this learning session\, we’ll dive into the practice of deep listening\, a foundational skill in the development of spaces that emphasize belonging and support mental well-being. Through interactive exercises and guided discussion\, participants will learn methods to practice listening with presence and reflecting in ways that show the speaker has been truly heard. Participants will leave with practical strategies to share with others and that can be applied in their daily interactions\, enabling them to become more attentive\, present listeners over time. \nPlease join us and invite others from your congregations or community! \nREGISTER HERE! \nPlease contact Eric Moen at emoen@episcopalhealth.org if you have questions or concerns. \nThe Episcopal Health Foundation Congregational Engagement Team works with the Episcopal congregations in the Episcopal Diocese of Texas to deepen their outreach ministries engaging in building healthy communities.

SUMMARY:EHF Mental Health Learning Network | Attending to Mental Health in Disaster Response
\nAttending to Mental Health in Disaster Response \n Date: Tuesday\, August 27\, 2024\n Time: 12:00PM – 1:15PM CT \nThe second session of the 2024 Mental Health Learning Series will focus on mental health and disaster response. \nRecently\, many Texas communities have been impacted by a series of natural disasters that leave a long tail of recovery in their wake. Understandably\, our focus tends to be on the physical impacts and addressing needs for safe housing\, food\, and other basic needs. But these disasters have significant psychological reverberations as well. This Learning Network session focuses on how congregations can be aware and attend to the mental health needs that emerge in the immediate and longer term aftermath of significant climate events. We will discuss trainings that can equip community members to attend to mental health after a disaster and how to access them\, discuss what congregations can do to prepare to respond after a disaster\, and share what some communities have learned from their past experiences. To deepen our learning\, we’ll engage with special guests: Rev. Jim Liberatore and Debbie Allensworth from Mosaic in Action\, and Dr. Kristine Louie from the National Center for Child Traumatic Stress.

Cultivating quality social connections can help us move toward greater mental health\, no matter where we are currently along the Mental Health Continuum. While many people value the social connections they have within their congregations\, simply belonging to a church doesn’t provide immunity from loneliness. So how do we develop stronger social connections for ourselves and make it possible for others to develop them\, too? \nThis is the final session of the 2024 Mental Health Learning Series. Join us for an engaging conversation!

SUMMARY:Traces of the Trade 2025 | Trinity\, Fort Worth
DESCRIPTION:What: Traces of the Trade Documentary and Dialogue in Fort Worth\, TX \nWhen:  Saturday\, April 5\, 2025 @ 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM \nWhere: Trinity Episcopal Church\, 3401 Bellaire Dr S\, Fort Worth\, TX 76109 \nREGISTRATION NOW CLOSED \nThe Episcopal Health Foundation in partnership with Trinity Episcopal Church\, Fort Worth invites you to view the film Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North and engage in dialogue facilitated by DeWolf descendant Dain Perry and wife Constance Perry. \nTraces of the Trade tells the story of the largest slave-trading family in U.S. history\, the DeWolfs of Rhode Island\, the forefathers of Producer/Director Katrina Browne. The film follows Browne and nine fellow family members on a remarkable journey\, which brings them face-to-face with the history and legacy of their New England family’s involvement in the slave trade in the 18th and early 19th centuries against the backdrop of Northern business\, communities\, and residents who condoned and benefited from slave trading. The film will be followed by facilitated discussion. \nRacial discrimination and systemic racism have profound effects on the health and well-being not only of minority populations\, but of our broader communities. EHF is uniquely positioned alongside the Diocese of Texas to partner with congregations to build bridges of health and wholeness into communities. Recognizing our Gospel call to seek and serve Christ in all persons\, together we will listen\, advise\, and work to build healthy communities. \nWatch the trailer here. \nIf you have questions about the event\, please contact Eric Moen\, Sr. Congregational Engagement Officer\, at emoen@episcopalhealth.org \n  \nAll Racial Reconciliation work at EHF is coordinated in partnership with the Episcopal Diocese of Texas and TEC’s Becoming Beloved Community. \n“Until we talk about the issue of race and racism and until we learn how it came about in this country and how it is affecting people today in such terribly negative ways\, we’ll never succeed in overcoming racism…knowing our history is critical in how we move forward\,” Dain Perry\, facilitator. \n“The more diverse the audience is the more we are truly listening to each other\, not just with our ears\, but with our hearts and our humanity in a non-threatening way. We can maybe begin to understand the challenges we all face and agree that we have work to do. But it’s through these conversations that we develop knowledge\, that we begin to build trust and begin to build community so that together we can begin to break down the walls of racism\,” Constance Perry\, facilitator.
