Big Turnout, Great Ideas at Council 2015

EHF presents popular program at 166th Annual Council of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas

In partnership with the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, EHF is working to support congregations and expand the impact of community health-related ministries across the 57 counties we serve.

“We’re in the process of developing our long-term goals and plans for how we can most effectively support congregations to deepen their engagement and impact with their local communities,” said Lisa Madry, EHF’s Diocesan Engagement Officer.

At the Episcopal Diocese of Texas’ 166th Annual Diocesan Council meeting February 6-7 in The Woodlands, EHF had the opportunity to share some initial plans with delegates representing the 153 Episcopal congregations of the Diocese.

In a packed workshop, EHF staff shared background information on the Foundation, as well as initial ideas about the kinds of training, research, consulting and other support we can provide to congregations. Our goal is to help build the capacity of congregations to effectively engage their communities.

In one of his keynote addresses to church delegates, Bishop Andy Doyle offered an ambitious challenge envisioning a transformation of the way that churches traditionally think of service ministries.

“He urged congregations to think about how they can go beyond charity, and invest in transformation and restoration built upon reciprocal relationships with communities,” Madry said. “This investment includes addressing root causes of the issues impacting health in our communities.”

EHF is eager to support congregations that are seeking to build communities that are healthy and well. We believe the impact of our support is multiplied when churches work in collaboration with their neighbors.
